Here in Maxabellaland, Saturday is traditionally a sport, shop, sort the clothes, sweep the floors, strangle the Tsunamis (insert other ‘s’ words here – no pun intended) kinda day. But on Maxabella loves… I thought it would be grounding to make Saturday my ‘grateful’ day.
This Saturday I’m grateful for…
1. Volunteers – when I think about all the time some people devote to making sure things run smoothly at my son’s school, I am so thankful. Where would we be without these selfless people who never say ‘someone else will do it’.
2. Letters – I love email as much as the next person, but this week I received the loveliest, hand-decorated note in my letterbox and it made my day.
3. My recliner – it’s old and ugly, but when the recliner handle-thingy broke this week and the footrest wouldn’t go up, I realised how much I love my comfy old friend.
What’s making you smile today?

I love when you do things like this 🙂 It really shows how awesome the little things in life are. I agree, hand written letters are the best. I’ve only been in Belgium 3 days and I’ve written at least 7 letters. And yes, thank GOODNESS for volunteers. Honestly, where would this world be without them? Today I’m grateful for photos. They are such a great creative outlet.

I’m smiling as I have just made some bread and put it in the oven. This always seems to slow the pace for me and make me relax.
Have a lovely day.

I love letters too, and we have a really great, supportive community at my sons’ school. Not all schools have that.
What made me smile especially today, was seeing how well the 8yo’s soccer team played – on their last official game of the season! All year they’ve played quite ordinary, but today that set up shots and passed and were in the right place at the right time. Fantastic to watch. They didn’t win, but it didn’t matter at all, because the effort was brilliant.

This is a bit boring, but today I am grateful to live in a democracy where I can safely go and vote without armed guards and in knowing that who I vote for will not leave me in fear for my life

Oh hand written letters are soooo wonderful! I totally agree, there is nothing like getting something in the snail mailbox (other than bills and junk mail, of course!)
I agree with JustJen….We are far from having a perfect system but I am gratfeul that we live in a country where we at least can choose who we vote for…

I love hand written letters too, though it has been a long time since I have received one. My husband, I and our three children all in the kitchen this morning cooking bacon and eggs for breakfast made me smile today.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE handwritten letters. And writing letters, too! It’s been ages since I received one. At the moment we are trying to sell our house. And my main concern is to find a female buyer to pass my address-embroidered Smythson envelopes on to. 🙂

Saturdays feel very condensed over our way too. I managed to get into the garden for a bit on Saturday and a bit of housework done Sunday, plus a cook up for midweek. Got to be thankful for a little head start.
