Good day to you all
Last week, my sister publicly outed me as a Wife Swap fan. This was during the same week that I publicly outed myself as a Bust A Move fan. I’m all class, me.
The Wife Swap thing began when LOML and I lived in London. Wife Swap started in the UK and then the Americans got a hold of the format and took it to a whole new level (of course they did). So now we have Wife Swap USA where we have hippies swapping houses with rednecks and exercise junkies swapping houses with committed slobs. There are pirates, there are burlesque dancers, there are lumberjills, there are goths, there are devil worshippers (always fun when they swap with a devout Christian). I don’t even care if it’s not ‘real’, it’s an amazing insight into the different ways that people live.
It’s seriously the most fascinating, addictive show on television. I can’t stop watching.

I have far too many bad TV show addictions, but Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is probably the most embarrassing, probably because I have a little crush on Ty Pennington too.
Amy xxoo says
Dont worry – i love Wife Swap too. Its hilarious because at least once every episode one of the wives refuses to follow the ” rules ” even though they knew what they were getting into…
As for my cant miss show ? ” The Amazing Race “. Its vicarious tv – now that i’m engaged and the mama of a 10month old i have no hope of ever getting to half the exotic places they get to go!
Corinne says
My only ‘can’t-miss’ show is Mad Men – I’m hopelessly addicted and hang out for Thursday nights.
If my hubby is out I will watch Wife Swap, I love it!
My guilty secret is I’ll watch Tori & Dean on a Friday night if hubby is out, I usually hate celeb reality shows and I don’t like them but I love the show.
Megan says
I love your Nosybella posts – I get to be nosy too, reading the comments!
Yeah, I’ll watch junky TV. Nothing in particular these days though, it’s only ever on in the background as hubby watches it and I type away. But if ever I do turn it on, it’s for my brain to stop, so junk TV it is.
BabyMac says
It’s OK. That’s NOTHING. My list of bad TV goes on and on and on and on. Just a few tasty treats for you: I HAD to series link The City and have almost watched every episode of the Hills. There I said it.
I know. It’s OK, I know.

Grand Designs, I have a bit of a thing for Kevin, swoon! Also, adore Top Gear (UK series), although the new Australian version despite being a total imitation, is actually not too bad. I must watch some Wife Swap, I am intrigued by the pirate family!
Selina says
mmm…really ? wife swap ?
I think I will comment… no comment
toushka says
oh yeah I love a bit of wife swap – haven’t seen it in ages though.
I used to have a few shows that were guilty secrets such as, the joe schmo show – that was gold! and True beauty was a not to be missed secret viewing pleasure too. Mainly ridiculously cheesy american reality tv that adds nothing to my life at all. But I love it.
Curvaceous Queen says
I do love a little Wife Swap just to make me feel a little better about the train wreck that is my house lol Other than that I have to channel my Inner Gleek at least once a week and then for a total change of pace I need to exercise my Criminal Mind.

I love The Wire, but have to watch it on DVD. I started watching Sherlock last night and, beyond the fact that I wish it was on the ABC, I think I may be hooked…
Suzie G says
Don’t mind a bit of Wife Swap when I come across it.. hubby, not so much 🙂
I’m loving Offspring at the moment. A quirky little show!
Me 'N My Monkeys says
Another wife swap fan, although i dont watch it all the time.
i love NCIS and packed to the rafters!
Chicken Willow says
I’m not a huge reality TV watcher. I did watch the first two series of Farmer Wants a Wife, but I’m over it now.
I can’t miss The Bill (I’m having withdrawal symptoms already now that it’s finished!) or Dr Who or Torchwood or Life on Mars or Breaking Bad or Mad Men…and probably a few more. Thanks goodness for Foxtel IQ. xx
Bubby Makes Three says
Goodness, I am much more trashy… hello Jersey Shore! The Hills! Location Location!!! tee hee!
Toni says
I’m with Emma — Kevin is CUTE and I love Grand Designs so much I bought all the DVDs. Also we love Dr Who, Spicks and Specks, Gruen Transfer, Bones, and Dancing With The Stars.
Recently I became addicted to Dexter but that isn’t on TV so it probably doesn’t count.
the textured leaf says
I got totally hooked on Glee!
Thanks for following me!

I’m with Emma – my husband doesn’t realise i have lurid dreams of Kevin McLeod. You know the type, arty chats, cafe’s, european cities, georgian columns, roman butresses……
MelbaToast says
I have so many embarrassing show addictions that I’ve stopped pontificating about them at work as they think I’m a loser (the biggest loser probably).
I LOVE any reality TV show along the lines of Project Runway, Rachel Zoe Project, The Hills, The City. LOVE LOVE Grand Designs (cannot wait for the Aussie version) and have a serious thing for Kirsty & Phil on Location, Location, Location!
AnastasiaC says
haha ive seen that show a few times, they couldnt get more opposite personality types could they?! im hooked on Real Housewives of NYC reality show – super bitchy stuff!!! its so bad its good!
my hubby rolls his eyes when i switch it over….
Being Me says
I loves me a bit of Wife Swap! Am laughing at Corinne…. Tori & Dean?! Lordy no, that’s a very brave admission. I absolutely LOVE The Soup (because it catches me up on all the trashy tv without me having to find the time to watch it all and I don’t miss out). And I cannot miss Mad Men either. And it has nothing to do with my huge crushes on Joel McHale and Jon Hamm…. not at all.
Cate says
18 Kids and Counting…don’t ask me why, I have no rational explanation 🙂
Gill@OurParklife says
nothing wrong with a bit of wife swap…I watch it – although not when MM is home…he can not stand it!
I have a whole heap of ridiculous shows I like to watch…The House of Tiny Tearaways and Supernanny were a couple I liked – until I realised I was spending the Monkeys’ nap time watching other people’s screaming children…Not a clever way to spend my kid free time at all…
Oh and The Bust A Move things just makes you cooler in my eyes!
Gill xo
Tamara says
hmmm I don’t like to judge…. but I must say I was never a fan of wife swap! My tragic tv addictions are (but not limited too) The Hills, One Tree Hill, McLeod’s Daughters (bad I know!) and who can dare miss an episode of Bold and the Beautiful! Just remember I didn’t judge!
Maxabella says
I am so going to watch Grand Designs in future!! I love these confessions of trash TV. It makes me love my Wife Swap even more… x
Kylie says
I dont get into reality tv type shows – but have a thing at the moment for Offspring:) and I have a thing for Mentalist – but that is a Simon Baker thing and my husband doesnt seem to mind too much.
MelbaToast says
Grand Designs Oz starts on the Lifestyle Channel this Thursday. Cannot wait to see some great Aussie homes. Loving Offspring – home it goes on for more than one season.
Kelly says
I like wating wife swap too. I guess the most embarrassing show that I like to watch would be Kendra (the xplaybog bunny)
LionessLady says
Wife swap is such a cack! I snort with laughter every time I catch it. I am currently addicted to Ace of Cakes on foxtel – all about bizarre ridiculous cakes people request and make!
Tenille says
I highly recommend Hung, though I don’t know that it has been screen in Oz yet, so you may have to turn to the interweb to find it.
I don’t mind a bit of Wife Swap either. Or The Hills (they make me laugh and laugh – idjots). Anything is better than repeat after repeat of Green Acres. I’m almost compelled to do harm to my TV when that hokey theme song bursts forth.
Gina says
I am a shameless real housewives fan…my husband always tells me I am too smart to waste my time watching idiots. But, I find it so entertaining!
Clea says
I loove a good spot of telly. There’s lots of good stuff on, but as for embarassing? I can’t miss Neighbours and Home and Away 😉
Kymmie says
We turn the TV off so I can blog. That’s my addiction. But if I was watching TV, it would definitely be reserved for Parenthood, Modern Family and Offspring. They all look funny and quirky. I’ve seen the ads. Does that count? And yes, I’m very weird. I’ll beat you to it.
Lark says
Oh I am a huge Wife Swap fan, the UK series is the best though. There was also one called Holiday Showdown where they’d get two families and make them go on two holidays together (usually one middle class family cycling in France and one working class family in Benidorm just wanting to drink and smoke all day), great stuff! I also loved the earlier series of Ladette to Lady, but not the Aussie version, although Australian Princess was a great one, did you see that? I LOVE reality shows, but not Big Brother etc. I must admit I am a bit partial to Border Security too, hee hee… xxx
Catherine says
I love trashy TV. I still like you and I will admit that Wife Swap is a favourite too. I even watched True Beauty, that was soooo bad but I watched it anyway. Do you still like me now?(lol)
