This was the week where I wasn’t retrenched then I sort of was and then I sort of wasn’t and then I definitely wasn’t. What a rush.
I’ve learned a few things along the way…
1. Laughter really is the best remedy. Check out Unhappy Hipsters to see why I still have a smile on my face despite the dreadful week I’ve had… they are so funny (even though they clearly don’t get the joke!).
2. Also keeping me smiling is the resillience of children. Maxi-Taxi’s “Battleaxe Fairies” made me realise that whatever happens, self-belief and creativity will get our kids through most things. Just like they’ve seen their parents through the worst from time to time.
3. Change is good, change is appreciated… but sometimes it sucks the very life out of you.
4. I know it’s ‘back’, I know it can look good, but I just can’t like wallpaper.
5. Eating four pieces of a chocolate, maple syrup, kit kat and marshmallow Christening cake is not very condusive to weight loss. The scary thing is, I don’t think I really learned this. I think I will probably do the same again next time I encounter the same oozing, lucious, sticky sweetness… darn!

Oh how Unhappy Hipsters makes me laugh! One of my favorite sites at the moment!

what a classic blog – can see why your still smiling!!! And I’m totally in awe of your son’s imagination. The marketters at Matel are shaking their head in disbelief that your son actually used his imagination rather that being brain-washing into thinking her needed a specific toy make by an adult that was meant to do those things….and this is why kids play so well!!! they totally get it.
ps – please provide recipe for said cake…it looks like it needs to be shared xx

I love unhappy hipsters. If only they got the joke…

Ha! had a really good giggle at unhappy hipsters..thanks for sharing! Yes. Need cake recipe. Stat.
I loved your post about the fairies..made me smile..but also made me re-think what toys I keep thrusting towards my little one. Imagination is a wonderful childhood trait!

I’ve learnt the the one year old can amputate her thumb in the door, I’ve learnt that it will get sewn back on! I’ve learnt that the house will not magically clean itself while you are cuddling said baby.
I’ve learnt that it doesn’t matter cause she looks so cute with her bandage!!
ps am so pleased the fairy thing turned out great, whew! did worry about that 🙂

sometimes chocolate is more important than weight loss – what am I saying? It’s always more important. I hope your week improves – you have made mine better so you deserve it!
Wendy says
I’ve learned that there’s only so much packing a girl can do before she needs to sit down and make something. Anything. Glad the Battleaxe Fairies were well received…I could so see one of my guys doing something along those lines!
Rachel says

Those battleaxe Fairies will go down in Maxabella history! I love it when our children go where we dare not go and we in turn learn through their little eyes 🙂
Our Park Life says

We have just found out we have to move house…..and as you say CHANGE is good but oh, how it is sucking the life out of me….it is not the time of year for a big move….

Oh yes, love Unhappy Hipsters! Ditto the sound of that cake (even though that terrible noise you can hear is the button on my jeans threatening to pop across the room).
And I have learned that despite the organic goodness of swabbing floors with eucalyptus oil and rubbing baking soda into the carpet, having a man come to your house and spray it with toxic pesticide is the only way you can really beat fleas!
The KitchenMaid says
P.S have you seen this blog? Lots to be learned here from this post alone I reckon…

(err, I mean, you probably have a fabulous wardrobe and everything, but this is still a nice blog!)

Love the post. I’m with you on the wallpaper thing. Most UK TV (where they seem to need to use 3 different types of wallpaper to cover a teeny tiny room) is enough to put me off for life.
This week I’ve learned that my husband is (apparently!) gift enough for our wedding anniversary… although in fairness he only got a card and two bags of his favourite licorice.

Your “What I learned” posts are one of my favorite reads of the week. What I learned this week…. hmmm. I re-learned that you should be extra nice to everyone, because you never know what personal struggles they are battling.

That unhappy hipsters is hilarious. Just the chuckle I needed.

Being retrenched is character building and makes you appreciate the bliss of being able to independently earn money, but I would not wish it upon anyone and I am glad it has not happened to you.
I sadly learned that pointlessly moving previously healthy gardenias from pot to ground is a good way to kill them instantly (sigh).

Loved loved the battleaxe fairies post! Just perfect. And wallpaper is really coming back? Ugh.
Bubby Makes Three says
my god — I’d break my diet for a slice of that cake, too!!! This week, I am celebrating my imperfections!! And hanging out my dirty laundry for the world to see! Actually, to make myself feel better about this, Im daring everyone else to do it as well…… come play with me?! x

Unhappy Hipsters – hilarious. Thank you for sharing! Chocolate, maple syrup, kit kats and marshmallows? Far more important than weight loss. Far more important (:

Oh sweetie, what a week indeed. I’m so pleased you are continuing to see the bright side despite the crappiness. I LOVE that photo. And, thanks for dropping by earlier too. I think Brene Brown is amazing. I’ve never done “self help” but she is a different matter.

I hope next week is not so much of a roller coaster ride!
and I agree maple syrup is NOT good for you. I too have been having it on toast – a lot! Not good for weight loss xx

The unhappy hipsters gave me such a laugh.
I’ve learnt I can never eat a whole bag of chips without regretting it. I’ve not learnt to stop though.

NO!!! Say it isn’t so!!! Wallpaper? I’m having flashbacks to this olive green bamboo pattern with bright yellow flowers on it that my parents had in our kitchen when I was growing up. Add that with the “avocado appliances” (yes, the house was built in the ’70s and avocado green was IN, or so I am told) – it was a nightmare! Oh, and did I mention . . . the bamboo wallpaper extended on the ceiling, too! AHHHH!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I nominated you over at http://www.babble.com/babble-50/mommy-bloggers/nominate-a-blogger/
Tee he! Make sure you all go and vote now!
Cate says
You shouldn’t worry so much about the cake!! A little blow-out in an otherwise moderate diet will not make that much difference. It’s what you do with the other 6 days of the week that counts (not that one treat we all need from time to time). Be kind to yourself! xxx
Tania says
Maxi Taxi is a veritable breath-of-fresh-air, piece of INSPIRE! The rest sounds like a somewhat dodgy week. Somewhere it is scientifically(?) proven that dodgy weeks improve in direct proportion to the amount of marshmallow Christening cake consumed. Until next week, anyway.
Joey @ Big Teeth and Clouds says
The drained swimming pool gave me a chuckle! I’ve been sick all week and I’ve learned that it’s a tad easier when the kiddo is in school. I get to nap! Woo hoo!
Tanya (a Taste of T) says
I cant focus on anything but cake now
