I went to a mine in the middle of bloody nowhere this week. We took a 2 hour ‘mudhopper’ flight out of Townsville into central Far North Queensland. Three and a half driving hours north west of Mount Isa. Yes, as middle-of-bloody-nowhere as that! It was rather romantic to experience somewhere that remote and special to meet some of the people who fly in to work out that way. But it was truly sobering to put a ‘face’ to the seemingly endless number of mine disasters that are happening in our world these days.
This week I’m grateful for…
1. My job – I have it, it interests me, it takes me on adventures a surprising number of times for a basic office worker!
2. LOML’s job – because he’s not going down into a mine every day.
3. Milk – as one miner put it “you can’t afford to be lactose-intolerbullshit’ around here. You need to drink your milk or you don’t stay healthy.
So, what’s making you smile today? Lovely husband and I chatted last night about work and jobs. And how drustrated he is woth some of the blokes that work for him. And he ended up shrugging and saying “At least I am not having to work down down a pit…”

1. I’m grateful to have my Hubby home for another weekend, and to have an extra set of hands to help out with everything.
2. I’m grateful for spending time alone (right now while my Hubby and bubby sleep) for the first time in about 8 days. Not having time for me isn’t good for my soul.
3. I’m grateful for taking a little road trip this morning with my family. It’s kinda like a road trip into our future, and I like it. x

Oh Mt Isa, i think that’s remote enough!! Not a fan of the Isa – not their fault, just had my worst morning sickness episode EVER there.
Just so grateful for my flexible life, it’s bouncy to say the least. Love Posie

Yes, in light of the Pike River Mine disaster, I think we all have much to be grateful for this week. Puts everything into perspective, doesn’t it?

I’ve changed jobs recently and find that for the first time in my life I am the oldest person in my workplace…which is strangely kinda cool.
And I feel for me sister who was sacked yesterday and I’m sure that a pit might be looking good for her at the moment with Christmas coming up.

it is easy to forget how lucky many of us are with our jobs these days….My Granda escaped the dangers of working in the mines in Wales, to take a job working in a nuclear power plant – he tested radiation levels!
I think your job sounds very cool, remote towns in Queensland and the V8 supercars thing…i like to hear about your working adventures
Happy Saturday!

Yes important things to be grateful for. Life is a bit hectic around here and my blogging time is being taken up driving my husband to and from work. Hopefully life will return to normal in a couple of weeks. Thank you for hosting this week post it is lovely to end the week and think about what we are grateful for as life goes to fast sometimes. Oh, I bet that was a gorgeous drive. I envy you. But a sobering mission. Such a dangerous occupation, I’m really disturbed by the lack of safety in the mining industry.
BTW, I have a very grateful post coming up.

I love the picture of the mine 😀

I think it would take courage for any miner right now to go to work without a heavy heart. I love the way you say Mt Isa was romantic – I bet it has never been called that before! 🙂 xx

I am trying to get back into the job I loved. The job I had before Little Persons came into my life. So far no joy, but I will persevere, because I am Waffler and they will hear me roar…well, maybe just peep, but I think you get where I’m coming from 🙂

As always a beautiful list of things to be grateful for. I’d be lost with out milk, and if I didn’t have a job I wouldn’t be able to pay for it 🙂
