Have you noticed that I’m not getting about much? I’ve been working hard in a fab new role at work. I love it, but learning something new takes time so the hours have been long and full on. It’s been Couch City all the way for me when I get home. And I’ve got a nasty, throaty, coughy cold.
So, it’s been a tired old week in general.
But a good one.
This week I’m grateful for…
112. Couch City – sometimes all you want to do is lie down and watch inane television and that’s what Couch City is aaaaaallll about.
113. Tissues – seriously, how did people manage with just hankies? They look pretty, but they’re also pretty useless. Hanky. Even the word sounds limp and feeble. (Although, check out The Mother Huddle for a cute idea for pretty handkerchiefs.)
114. Daphne – the thought of sweet, sweet Daphne wafting across a chilly breeze – one of the great pleasures of winter. I can’t wait to plant my own (still sitting in the box after I bought it in last week… hmmmm… obviously I can wait!)
So, what’s making you smile today? Add your I’m Grateful For post to the list below (and please, we love you, but it really does matter that your post is a Grateful one and not just a random), add the button (grab the code from my sidebar and paste it into your post) and pretty-please add a link back to me. Then pop over to visit other bloggers who are spreading a little sunshine.

Ah busybella it sounds like you need some TLC and a big rest over the weekend.
I hope that the sniffles depart and that your nose is tickled with the delights of Daphne and other lovely scents sooner rather than later.

Silver Threads of Happiness says
Ahh Couch City! I will be very very grateful for couch city next week after 2 weeks without any couch at all! Hope you get plenty of time at CC on the weekend, recovering from the new brain-draining learning and the attack of the boogies.

I too am a tissue user. I love the idea of pretty hankies, but think it’s silly to have to carry around a snot filled hankie all day if you’ve had a sneezing fit on the way into work. Also I’ve been known to go through half a dozen tissues on one train ride, and carrying around that many hankies would be ridiculous.
I keep thinking though, that I should carry one, for those days when it’s just a little sniff and I don’t need a whole tissue (but also have the travel pack of tissues just in case).

Couch central – – bless hope you have a great weekend avec tissues and all 🙂

Oh Maxabella, I did wonder where you’d gotten to. (But then also thought that perhaps you were like me and trying to blog every second day instead.) Sorry to hear you’re sick, but awfully excited about your new work role. Whoop whoop for you! But yes, the brain does strain with new things. I hope you enjoy your couch a lot this weekend. There’ll be more of that learning curve first thing on Monday!
zz (yes, they’re snoozies for you, instead of the usual kisses)
Jane says
Hankies are gross. Tissues all the way, baby!
And I am totally joining you in Couch City. In fact, I’m here in Couch City as we speak.
Have a great weekend! xxx

Hope you’re feeling better soon. That photo is just divine 🙂 Kx

I am a recent convert to couch city. I thank my beloved Mr G for finally teaching me how to relax, and also his obsession with Foxtel which means I can record anything I want to and watch it whenever I visit cc. xx
Jodie at Mummy Mayhem says
Gosh…my parents in their 80s still use hankies…ewwwww. I can’t stand the thought.
My fave tissues are the aloe vera ones. Esp for the kids, because their little noses don’t get sore and they let you wipe them then!
Hope you feel better soon, hon. And congrats on the new role at work!
Posie Patchwork says
Oh get well soon, don’t you love that if that was pre-children you’d have had the chance to feel sorry for yourself & actually do nothing, take the day off work & collapse. Motherhood makes us way too stoic & tenancious with health. I’m a tissue nazi, we have one box, in the pantry, communal use, i’d rather the children use toilet paper & flush it immediately. Tissues drive me nuts, we never had them in my family, we were hankies or the toilet paper routine. Love Posie
Mama of 2 boys says
Yes tissues rock! Only my Dad still uses hankies… much to mine and my Mama’s disgust. There is something just not right about them. Although I do appreciate a delicate, pretty little number, like the ones in your pic :o)
I hope you start to feel better very soon, you poor thing. A little bit more Couch City, could be just the ticket for you this weekend xo
Deer Baby says
Love those pretty hankies fluttering on the line.
Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your job.
I always got a three pack of hankies in my stocking at Christmas. Dull. We had to carrry one up our sleeve at all times. Friends who had boxes of tissues in every room and even in the car were , to me, the height of sophistication!
Stop sniffling soon!
Louisa says
I have a misplaced affection for hankies. My Dad always carried one and I didn’t even mind when he handed it to me to wipe my nose, or tears, or grubby hands and it was crumpled and crusty.
Angus carries a hankie now he’s a Dad and Coco doesn’t seem bothered by the crumpled crustiness either!
Now I see it in black and white, I am thinking that you are right and tissues probably are the better option!
Have a lovely weekend xx

I so want to love hankies for their gorgeousness and being better for the environment. But yet so impractical. Glad to hear you are loving your new job. I too have been hanging out at couch city the past few days!
Vic says
Gosh I remember hankies when I was little – stuffed up a sleeve no less… not great memories, I’ll admit.

Ok i admit it. I wasn’t feeling too greatful today, and i wasn’t going to link up. Nope. Not happening. But i took off my grouchy pants and made it to the game.
I am sorry you’re sick. Argh. Let’s hope this is it for you for winter and now you have it over and done with!

I love old hankies for collecting and decorating, but the thought of using one is off-putting. I hope your on the mend soon, lovely.
Quill and Ink Handmade says
Hankies make me think of my grandma – she always had violet-scented ones tucked into sleeves and pockets; small ones with embroidered flowers and faded patterns. She was so delightful – thanks for the reminder 🙂
Feel better soon! x
Kellie says
Definitely sounds like you need to put your feet up and indulge in some mindnumbing TV! 🙂
The dreaded lurgy has been lurking around our quarters too. Although, fingers crossed, I’ve escaped it so far!! 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better soon.

i have serious hankie envy looking at that collection on the line. not (no never) for nose blowing but for making into a hankie quilt. i hope your sniffle train pulls out of the station on a one way trip. happy couch sitting

Cute pic of hankies. Get better soon. Sounds like the fab new role at work needs you to be in the pink.
I’ve tagged you in a recent post. No need to play along but I thought I’d let you know it was there. http://katiecrackernuts.blogspot.com/2011/04/mixed-bag-up-nuts-you-decide.html

Daphne…. So many things that reminded me of this beautiful lady this week, your post was one of them, Daphne was my Grandmothers name..
Thanks for running this, I sometimes feel there is too many sad stories to tell, but we should always try to look for the good things too, they often happen alongside the bad but we get so focused on the negative that we cant see it..
Its been lovely to join in.
Frog, Goose and Bear says
Hope your weekend was rejuvinating and you’ve managed to kick that cold! Glad you indulged with some couch time while you could -we Mum’s can be a bit silly sometimes and keep pushing through long after our bodies are telling us to stop and let ourselves recover! I’m a tissue girl, but I still love the look of a pretty hanky.
