Imagine my joy when LOML turned to me earlier this year and said “Where are you going on your annual road trip this year?”
It’s annual! My once-in-a-lifetime escape by myself is actually annual!
He’s a good man, my man. He understands me and he knows how to make me sing.
The question remained: where am I going to go this year?
I’m heading out towards the end of July and I’ve always wanted to go to Tassie, so that was on the cards. I planned to visit Jane in Hobart and then mosey around the coast a little bit. But then LOML and I decided that we want to go to Tasmania for the first time as a family, so I’ve parked that idea for later in the year.
So now, I’m driving from Sydney to Daylesford and poking around there before driving home. A trip like that is going to be inspiration, creativity and promise all wrapped up in a handmade rug to warm the soul.

Just wanted to say OF COURSE I’ll be giving big smooches to Allison at Lark whilst in Daylesford (I am an avid eshopper already!). And I would have been having a cuppa at Kate’s place too, but she’ll be inconveniently off having a marvellous caravanning hol with the fam…

If memory serves Cammy from Curly pops is from Daylesford as is the Lark (I think will double check and get back to you).
This all sounds way to divine to be true btw – your hubby is such a keeper 🙂

Great idea. I did this trip last year with my 3 closest girlies, and we rented a house for a weekend. Love Daylesford, you’ll have a great time. Recommend the Hepburn Springs Bath House for a spa treatment and Breakfast and Beer (awesome cafe, great local food … we went there twice, it was SOOOO good). Have fun. x
Cate says
Yep definitely the Lark

Definately go to the Lark shop – and they have a house you can rent too! Although it is a little big if you are only going on your own! Plus, I’m from Tassie – also great to do on your own and with small people. 🙂

oh lucky you, I would love to go to Daylesford. Big trip though. Well, if you coming down the highway, you can pop in for coffee or lunch or whatever. I’d offer you a bed but we don’t really have one spare …

Oooo lucky lady and very well deserved I am sure. Not quite sure if Daylesford is anywhere near Bright. But Bright is a must see in country Vic. My brother lives in a little town outside of Myrtleford, called Rosewhite. That entire area, is SO worth seeing. Have fun putting your itinerary together.
Sarah says
No advice as I have no clue. But have a wonderful time xx
Tas says
Oh have fun. Daylesford is on my list too.
We are touring a bit of Tassie soon. You will love it. Beautiful place and compact too!

Wow a vacation on your own every year! That is awesome. I am not familiar with your part of the world. Sorry, I can’t help you. But the other readers know what they are talking about so you should get a slew of good ideas. Have fun picking which one you want to go to.

I want to be in that picture! You live in such a beautiful part of the world. We have lovely parts of the UK, but the photo has taken me back to Mrs Average B.C (before children) when I travelled (daydreamy).
Mr A is a wonderful man, but he’d never even think of me having a holiday as a concept! Bless him. I have a day off tomorrow to have to myself, he thought it was a wonderful idea that I have “put a few hours aside for myself”! Enjoy.
Natalie says
definitely go to Lark. And the lady who owns it has the most gorgeous little holiday house she rents out. Daylesford is a a beautiful spot, makes me want to go back there for a visit.

Sorry I’m a slacker American who has never even visited your gorgeous country so I have no advice!
But I had to say that photo is so beautiful it made me want to cry. That and getting a vacation alone. I don’t even have children but it still sounds like the perfect thing.

If it’s still there the pie shop at the end of the main street, just around the corner of the left side if driving down the street, from the highway, the pies are just delicious, and the guys who run it are so sweet!
And the Convent Gallery is stunning, it’s an old convent converted into an art gallery, 3 or 4 stories of art, a lovely afternoon wander up and down the stairs with devonshire tea also!
You’ll love it!
Amelia {Weddings, Babies... Everything} says
That sounds perfect!
I adore Daylesford. Hubby and I are going to head up there later this year for our belated honeymoon (we’re having a honeymoon to Fiji in July but Little Miss will be with us).
It’s such a beautiful town. I’m also dying to go to Tassie, I can’t believe I’ve never been yet. We have such a beautiful country to explore. 🙂 xx

I love Daylesford and will be there for a girly crafty weekend tomorrow – yay! I second the ‘Breakfast & Beer’ recommendation, and loved Koukla for wood fired pizza…
Awesome vintage shopping at Daylesford Bazaar, The Mill Markets and another little shop I loved in Vincent Street but didn’t get the name of.
And, of course, Lark. Irresistible 🙂
Amy says
Oh wow, not two minutes ago I commented over at Polka Dot Lane that I have never been to Daylesford, but that it is on my list of places to visit.
I have no suggestions as I have never been, lol. But have fun! It sounds fantastic.

Yay!! Thanks my dearie, that’s great news, we’ll look forward to welcoming you to Daylesford, let me know exactly when you’re coming!xx

Ah, Bron, you lucky, lucky duck. Having solitude and an open plan whilst in such a pretty area sounds positively blissful. Enjoy every second of it, my friend. And I’m looking forward to your visit down here, whenever that may be! J x
Lene says
Oh wow! A road trip, how exciting! Never been to Daylesford (actually have never heard of it, being from QLD and all) but have done a massive family road trip around Tassie. It was incredible, beautiful, nostalgic. Just us, four kids and a camper…Crazy? Yes. Fun? You bet!
Sannah says
Sounds wonderful! And how lucky are you getting to have it as an annual thing!! I’m going green with envy!
I have been desperate to go to Daylesford for a couple of years now, and seeing as we are now living in Victoria I was thinking of doing it this weekend, I hadn’t thought about doing it without the family though – what a novel idea!! And Tassie as a family trip will be wonderful! Have lots of fun planning your trips!
Kymmie says
Oh Bron. Sounds so lovely. I think I need something like that, that is annual. Bliss! Now Daylesford is splendid. But I can recommend a few other places in the area too. I’m a bit of a fan! xx
