I’m in the middle of a big de-clutter at my place. Every now and then I just go nuts and have a Big Clear Out, getting rid of anything that’s been annoying me for the past six months or so. Bin it, Vinnies it, Recycle it or Pass it On. That’s my four areas and sadly the ‘Bin it / Recycle it’ boxes are always the biggest. The tat that kids accumulate is unbelievable. Where does it come from and how does it get in my house? A question for the ages…
The reason I’m telling you this is that during my Big Clear Out I discovered that I had two copies of the marvellously inspirational The Crafty Kid by Kelly Doust. I do that from time to time… covet something so much that I buy it twice. What to do?
Why give one away to you, of course!
Look, you can even make an apron! |
Giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.
All you’ve gotta do to be in the draw is leave me a comment below telling us all about the last creative thing you did with your kids. Doesn’t have to be crafty (this book will help you enormously if you’re challenged in the crafty department). Can be anything creative whatsoever.
Entries close on Friday, 18 May.
Winner drawn using that random number generator thingy and announced here on Saturday, 19 May.
PS – Make sure I can easily find your email to let you know when you win!

What a lovely giveaway Bron!
I don’t have my own kidlets so I’m trying to force the crafty gene onto my nephews. Our most recent crafty project was making calico dinosaur softies that they coloured in using fabric markers.
They have a short attention span, but usually anything involving cutting something up with scissors and using lots of stickytape to stick it back together floats their crafting boat!

I dream of being more creative. I am a kind of creative person but have been lacking inspiration. My girls and I did spent sometime today drawing love hearts and rainbows today. We also built a fairy house this weekend out of a cereal box. My daughter left out a grape for the fairies and in the morning her grape had been replaced with a small flower. I love that she believes in fairies
jody says
How exciting! I am not too creative when it comes to crafting.. the last thing we did was some painting this week. Would love this book!
Janelle says
I love being crafty, but unfortunately am not as good at it as I’d like to be! The last creative thing I did with my daughter was to create a make-believe “ranch” for her Barbie using other toys- plastic animals for pets, blocks became a garden with trees and shrubs, the etch-a-sketch became the sky in the background and told us what the weather was doing π I don’t know who had more fun- her or me!
Jane says
Oh Bron, you generous soul. Hmm, decoupaging a tray with old stamps and Miss India’s assistance springs to mind. J x

A Jellyfish! made from a polystyrene cup, coloured streamers for tentacles glued onto the inner rim of the cup so they hang down, plastic googly eyes glued on then let my girls draw the nose and mouth, and decorate with stickers or textas. To hang i pierced a hole it the base of the cup and then tied a knot in a piece of string, threaded through the hole to hang up our jellyfish!!
Brenda @ Mira Narnie says

Nothing like a good purge – well done! Fantastic giveaway too! This book looks gorgeous. How cute is that pirate skull and cross bone tshirt! Crafting this week…. where do I start?! My fave was when Frog (aged 3) and I did a collaborative effort on some birthday and mothers day cards. She drew the pics and I colored in. Loved doing it together.
It’s the week of giveaways as I’ve got one on my blog this week too!
Vanessa says
Oooh, lovely giveaway. Gardening is creative, isn’t it? Well then, the last thing we did was plant six strawberry plants and repot a blueberry bush. Otherwise, we photocopied a load of bark, flowers and seed pods from the garden!

As a homeschool mum via School of the Air Broken Hill, with one in preschool and one in kindergarten, we are always doing lots of crafty little things-too many to think of in a week usually. Two of the ones we all loved lately though were making a wreath for Anzac day using our handprints we had cut out and glued onto a paper plate for the leaves, and then made crepe paper poppies for the flowers. This takes pride of place still on our wall. The other was a clown puppet-happy opne side said the other with 2 paper plates, textas for drawing faces and scrunched up crepe paper balls for hair, pom poms for noses, this one was for our communication unit and helped with acting out a little play. This book would be a fantastic resource for our school room for even more crafty love. Love your blog x

OK that pirate craft project that is pictured has me totally coveting this book too!
It’s hard to pin down a particular creative thing that we have done lately, the kids pretty much create every day without any prompting from me. Today was mostly drawing, there has been cardboard craft and play dough constructions this week, as well as admiring the autumn leaves on the walk home from school, and making up songs and stories. I’d still like to join in on more of that stuff, though. I think because the older two kids just make stuff most days on their own, I’m not really involved in that anymore. I should gate-crash and make stuff with them a bit more often…
Kirsty @ Bowerbird Blue says
Had a birthday party here yesterday and there was cake decorating and pizza making. Tonight we’re drying apples after borrowing an apple slinky maker. The big one just hooks right into a project at the moment. I am getting a new sewing machine this week so will be looking for things to make.
Mary says
My daughters and I played babies yesterday. Guess who had to be the baby! The girls relished telling me what to do for a change haha. I do have to say that they both did a scarily accurate impression of me, finger pointing and all , oops.
Cal says
The book looks right up our alley!
This morning we roasted marshmallows over the gas burner on the kitchen stove! Made for a nice mother’s day start. Idea of my 6 year old. Awesome.
We tend to make stuff and be creative in general. It comes naturally to kids. In the last week we planted leek stumps after wondering if they would grow when we were making soup (they do). We do the same for odd kitchen vegetables, and now have four avocado saplings and two garlics too.
Grace says
We made robots from recycled materials. The kids had lots of fun!

Toni says
Well, no wonder you bought two!! it looks pretty cool.
My kids and I sometimes bake which will get Mr 10 involved — otherwise with him, I suggest Lego models to make and he no-nos them all and makes what he wanted.
And Miss 7 has a dreaded craft box, full of toilet rolls and paper and boxes, and is constantly making Treasures Which Must Be Kept.
Luckily, I don’t have to do them with her, I just provide all the supplies and remind her of the Rules For Painting.
Kristy says
We collect Autumn leaves on the weekend – painting is planned for today.
The book looks great!
Kamana says
that is such a great book. my children and i baked a cake yesterday.
Kathryn says
The most recent crafty thing we did was making our own fossils. We got the idea from the Mad About Science facebook site. The “authentic looking” ancient rock was made using flour, coffee grounds, sand and salt. The fossils came courtesy of shells and leaves. They look pretty awesome.

That looks like an amazing book…..
Well I am only just beginning my journey of crafty activities with my little man (who is 3 1/2 months old).
As you can imagine the last few months have been very full on however before his birth I made numerous crafty things for his nursery – a paper mobile, handmade prints to hang, “baby” text to sit on the bookshelves, a flag bunting and my sister made gorgeous baskets to sit in the open shelves in his room. All in all I am over the moon how everything has come together it is certainly a labour of love and I can’t wait to share lots of craft projects with my little man in the years to come.
Claire Chadwick @ Scissors Paper Rock says
Ooooh I love this giveaway. That book looks FABULOSIS!
This morning we built a fort from couch cushions & blankets. We hid from dragons & used an iPad case to detect when wolves {or woofs as Ella calls them} were coming close! FUN π

So, my hand is up on the craft deficient part. Mind you, we’re getting crafty over here doing pirate things! Making scarves, pirate outfits, invitations, cooking. I guess there’s lots of crafty things that happen here which doesn’t involve an actual sewing machine!
Perhaps it’s just that I’m sewing machine deficient?
What a lovely find to have TWO gorgeous crafty books. And yes, once you know where all the TAT comes from, let me know so I can block up that hole in the house π
Happy Days sweet Bron!
xx
Rachael @ Pretty Pink Peony says
Oh this looks wonderful, I would love to be in the draw! I did collage with my 2 year old for the first time, learnt heaps from doing it like…not to put out such a big spread next time, even though I thought I already did have minimal options! Was so much fun and held his attention for a looking time!
Sam says
Oh, that book looks amazing,so I’m in. We decorated some boxes with wrapping paper for the kids to use as pencil cases, also decorated cupcakes and made a rainbow collage.:)

My Miss 5 is a total craft addict at the moment – it’s awesome, but the little bits left everywhere do drive me nuts! The last planned and executed crafty thing we did together was a chain of elephants cut from coloured cardboard and decorated with pens, stickers and coloured paper. Thanks for the giveaway π
At Number 32 says
What beautiful pictures. I see why you ‘must have’ two!! Last thing we did was make a new batch of playdough. Seems your never too old for playdough!Love it x
happylan says
Do tangrams count or is that too mathematical? Little W and I do photo projects together which is fun. I do have plans for a puppet theatre but keep forgetting to buy paintbrushes! Threw the old falling apart ones out.
Lisa H says
What a lovely, generous idea! It looks like a gorgeous book. But don’t put me in the draw… my kids are a bit big for that and I’m not hearing the patter of grandkiddies tiny feet for a very long time. I hope!
Tas says
I have just cleaned out my yarn and fabrics and have put myself on a ban but my theory is that buying more patterns and books will help me use up the stash. Counterproductive? Perhaps.
Apart from cooking, I bit the bullet over the summer holidays and sewed softies with all three. Lots of teeth gritting form me and had to stretch it over a couple of sessions to ensure everyone’s survival and my sanity but I was surprised that the eldest kidlet was the most keen and interested. In judging their personalities, I have been nurturing the wrong kid in the crafting department.

We are in the throes of inside cubby house building at the moment…each day they are getting more elaborate and unstable! But so much fun.

I’m amazed I haven’t bought one (or more) copies of this already!
We’re knee deep in baby clothes, beds and bottles…apparently we’re running a day care centre…just what I need!!
Glowless @ Where's My Glow says
Does colouring in count? I’m sadly not very crafty, despite being quite creative. I don’t mind a bit of mess though so when Tricky’s old enough we’ll be in to popsticks and pipecleaners I’m sure!
I must admit I get a tad envious of all the beautiful things crafty people can make! I swoon then go a little green it would seem.
neenaballerina says
I painted with my kids yesterday. My middle child (my only daughter) had pictures of the Eiffel Tower which she dutifully copied. She wants to know if she can sell them at the gallery shop… She’s only five! I wish I had her confidence π
Bean's Mummy says
What a great, green idea! Bean and I would love the book, especially given the rain here in Melb at the moment. Last crafty thing we did was this arvo…coloured paper shapes, paper & clag = much fun. x
Danya says
Sadly I am the most uncrafty person EVA!! However, I am trying. Trying very hard. We did easter craft with paint. And Mothers Day craft with paint and glue. We are off to the fabric shop this weekend to invest in some offcuts for crafty ‘stuff’! I just dont have a freakin clue what to do with it π So please pick me pick me pick me cause I NEED that book!! x

I am a Nanna who loves to craft and my grandaughter is fascinated with every thing I do. She comes to stay and we craft together. Last thing we did together was to make a caterpillar out of pom poms. This book would give me lots more inspiration of things we could make.

We made caramel mud cupcakes with caramel icing for my daughter to take to school for her birthday. We are definitely looking for ideas to keep us busy now with Winter keeping us inside more.

The only thing that has been created in my house today is MESS! Before that we got a bag of leftover crafty bits from my MIL and the boys made ‘treasures’!

Hmm, creative things… This morning I helped the girly girl stamp stuff, paper and herself with purple ink. We do something creative every morning, she’s so hard to keep up with!
Posie Patchwork says
Oh this looks fabbo. I have Kelly’s Crafty Minx book & it’s lonely. Last creative thing, oh besides parenting them for the past 9 months while my husband is away at war, trust me, you get c.r.e.a.t.i.v.e especially when you forget to boil eggs, buy ham & run out of anything spreadable for sandwiches . . . i know, making welcome home signs for Daddy, not only crafty but filled with insane doses of love. I made a welcome home husband one, i’m possibly more excited than the children.
Good luck everyone!! Love Posie

What a fab giveaway! The last creative thing we did was yesterday, and to be honest, it was all my 5yo’s idea! She traced my finger, her finger, her 3yo sister’s finger and her 19 month old sister’s finger. Then cut them out and glued them down again into the shape of a butterfly – genious!!
