In the olden days of blogging, people talked a lot about ‘authenticity’ and ‘blogging raw’. Eden Riley was (and absolutely, deservedly still is) the Aussie pin up for blogging raw – quite literally at times. I don’t know what happened to the preoccupation with “authentically blogging raw”, but the chatter eventually went away; no doubt replaced by debate about disclosure. Or perhaps we simply agreed to agree that ‘raw’ was different for everyone. Personally, I prefer my blogging carefully grilled and enhanced with a little pepper, but as Carly’s post from last week’s Rewind shows ‘blogging raw’ is still quite amazing when it happens.
And ‘raw’ can be the state of mind a post leaves you in too. Every now and then you read a post that hits you right in the tear ducts. Read this one from Housewife in Heels. Oh. my.
And Problogger continues to give good post, with Caitlin from Mother From Down Under blogging about life lessons Problogger-style. I mentioned in the comments that I always want to slap people who tell me not to compare myself with others when clearly it’s something that everyone does and I think a natural part of life; but I get that it’s not a healthy or sensible thing to do (especially the slapping part). I just don’t quite know how you stop doing it or whether it’s even necessary… all I know is that I compare myself with what absolutely everyone in the whole world is doing, but these days I don’t beat myself up about it. I observe, I take notes, I ponder and I decide whether or not I should try harder.
I’m not sure who said it, but they said it well: “Don’t compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel.”
Ah, life.
Right now I’m on hols up the coast, watching the rain fall on a gorgeous beach as it happens. Today’s weather matters not a jot when a whole week we’ve spent, enjoying the now and each other. Perfection.
Happy reading!
