Aunty Al and her two junior burgers have been up to stay with us this week. What a laugh we all had – especially the children as the five of them tore through the homestead, breaking everything in their path. Yep, that was pretty funny indeed. Aw, what does it matter when both the destruction and noise levels are so high that you just know your children are writing the story of their childhood. When I was young, our cousins would come to stay and we would…
So, this week I’m grateful for…
151. Visitors – I make no secret of the fact that I’m not a big fan of routine. What better way to spice up the week than have fun (and funny) people to stay?
152. Books – Even better when my guests love books as much as I do. Al, Aunty Coo and I decided that what we needed more than a night on the tiles (sorry Woogsy) was a night perusing cheap books at the local Lifeline book fair (as you do). Open until 9pm, by the time we settled the kids, ate some dinner and found the darn place we had all of 27 minutes to snap up approximate 53 children’s books each. It was a book buying frenzy, let me tell you. And I’m still recovering from the bizarreness of the Lifeline staff… but that’s another post entirely.
153. Little gems – And would you believe that among my 53 snapped-up-in-seconds books was a little gem of a children’s book called The It-Doesn’t-Matter Suit written by Sylvia Plath and published posthumously in 1996. Sylvia Plath does children’ books! How random! I do love a book fair!
Being Me says
Whaaaaat? I don’t get around to coming here for weeks and now I’m first? Oh my giddy aunt. Fun and funny people coming to stay are the food of my soul! Needs to happen far more often! (if you’re ever in Melbourne, Bron…..)
I’ve linked you up to something that brought a much needed smile this week π Love my doggies. xo
Being Me says
p.s. I would love to hear more about the Lifeline staff. And I LOVE the sound of the children’s book buying frenzy!

I love books.
I more then love them.
I always have apparently. My Pop tells me stories about how much I loved them as a kid. I have clear memories of my other Pop telling me I was lazy one school holidays as I busily absorbed myself in a few Goosebumps books.
I’m so glad my children love books too. They play such an important role in my life and it could have gone either way. Mr Black does not read. Instructions, maps, TV programes, or books. Actually i’m not sure he can read.

I’m grateful for my youngest, who despite training for his apprenticeship in man flu, was actually really quite a good sport about being sick.

Sounds like a fabulous finish to the school holidays.
Your Sylvia Plath find sounds bizarre and wonderful. I do love kids books. Can’t have enough.
Amelia {Weddings, Babies... Everything} says
There’s nothing quite like a good book.
As for house guests, I’m a little against them at the moment after the first half of the year was spent having people with us for SIX weeks. SIX! π
Happy weekend lovely lady. x x x

I love the it doesn’t matter suit. I had it years ago, who knows what happened to it. How funny if it had found its way across the land and oceans to be the very same copy. Some how I think not. But I will have to get another copy now you have reminded me of its very existence.
Lauren says
wow I hope that book isn’t anything like the bell jar…
π lovely to hear you had some lovely friends to stay AND got so many bargains! x

You always look at life in a way which seems so very Right. I love it! Writing the story of their childhood – perfect!
Well done on the book buying frenzy, I’ve had a few of those in the past trying to find stacks of books for the kids at school

oh so nice! I can’t believe you managed to get 53 books in 27 minutes .. I am far too dreamy to do that. I have a favourite second hand book store back home. i know the guy who works there well, perhaps because i’m always pottering around their shelves. they have books up to the ceiling and ladders you can climb up. love it. and love that you thought of books. x

I love books too! That’s why I joined The Novel Challenge, an on going event in Australia which challenges participants to read as many books as they can in 30 days to help raise funds for those who suffer from multiple sclerosis. I love it that I can help out while enjoying a favorite hobby. π Do visit my blog, I’m telling all about my adventures in being part of the challenge. π

hehehe – what fun! oh yes, i do love a good raucous housefull of peeps – specially little ones, that do that infection giggle! And books! Oh how dull life would be without books….I’ve taken now to having several on the go at once (I was never like this!) must be my old age, I’m loosing patience (tehee!) and as for volunteers at oppies – oh, there are always stories and I have a few too.
not linking up today ;-( as I have my giveaway going on! but I’m always grateful xx

Vistors and books…awesome list to be grateful for – join in this week, first time in so long xo

Hi Maxabella..I laughed when I read Miss Pink’s comment as I was always told I was lazy as a child as I so often had my head in a book..but what was in those books transcended my life at that time! Kids are told off for not reading and often told off for reading a lot! Kids don’t really have much of an idea of balance..it would be nicer if there wasn’t so much telling off but just some gentle encouragement when things are a bit extreme. I think kid’s books really show the heart of a writer…just love ’em..mostly.

Just hold onto those happy thoughts! Cousins are just the best (and you know if you go all cranky-yelly-control-freaky Sister A and C will only blog about it a *little*!!!)
Hope you are having a great weekend π
