Sometimes a grey old day gets into your heart. Your head forecasts bright and sunny, but your heart sees the sky and thinks that grey is just right for today. Hello clouds. Hello gloom. Well now, here we are.
There is no end to my luck in this world. Just about every day my thoughts are hopeful and planning. I’m ticking off my To-Don’t list (the list you have for all the things you don’t want to do but must); I’m working away like the conscientious little beaver that I am. Building organised little dams to stop the flood of what exactly I’m not sure.
My heart is a little grey today. Uncertain, worried, bleak and stretched. Perhaps the neat little dams I build are there to stop this kind of flow. Not stormy and foreboding, not ominous; just grey. Hanging there out of reach, like a forgotten dream.
We all have grey days. Sometimes the weather matches just perfectly but the thing is, like right now as I write this for instance, the sun always comes out eventually in a blaze of warm magnificence and the heart lifts up. Just a little.

I love grey days and I love the rain, but only for those lazy days at home where you can sit and read a good book or snuggle in bed. Not so much when things need to be done, like school runs and washing.
Hope the sun emanates (sp?) a glorious glow from you soon 🙂

Sometimes I have grey days on the sunniest of days too. Hoping today gets brighter for you x

I’d hang around in my pjs watching daytime tv. Your allowed to ‘feel’ grey days because you know the sun’s going to come out eventually!

So true, we cant be happy smiling people all the time we are all human afterall. I stay at home with the remote in one hand and a magazine in the other, feeling sorry for myself until my partner comes home and makes me laugh and then I snap out of it!

Grey days are best spent, in pj’s with a cup of something lovely in one hand, a book, mag or remote in the other and your bum on the couch (feet up of course) and rug over your knees…….It’s time we embrace grey days I say!
Robyn says
i wish i could say, in a bath, reading…all those things that you should- but probably in a mood I can’t shake, eating too many biscuits and going to bed early!

I have had the greyest week, matched completely by the weather. Yoga and sleep is getting me through. Even in winter the sun always shines, usually when you least expect it. xx

Wish I was in bed reading a book!

Hibernate with chocolate.
No. That’s no help.
A brisk walk and a herbal pick me up.
Or hibernate with chocolate.
Wishing you a whole rainbow – when you’re ready for it.

It is so grey here, not an ounce of sunlight for about 5 days now… rain, cold, and still unpacking… I was thinking today what I need is a craft fix, or a lunch out with friends… might be a few days yet – I have been feeling the greyness too! xxx

We’ve been having a bit of a grey day here too (funny though I actually love the colour grey, but not so much in the weather or my mood). I’ve been a bit cheered up by looking at a couple of video clips of my kids. I wrote a bit about it here: http://mendandmakenew.blogspot.co.nz/2012/06/then-now-grover-rides-washing-line.html

i started off on a grey day today, grey in my heart that is. but then i got online and talked to my love, who lives seemingly a million miles away and now my grey day is no more.

We all have some of these greys!
I try to handle myself with TLC and coffee!
Mrs Bok - The Bok Flock says
I get them too. I do what they say you shouldn’t…I have cheezels and curl up with episodes of a junky tv show – Or an old fave movie – just distract myself really until the next day. I’m usually better the next day.
I know you’re meant to exercise but it’s the last thing I feel like doing if I’m in a very grey mood.
I know you’re meant to seek company and see friends but I don’t want to bring my friends down too cos I know it’s just a funk and i get out of it soon enough.
Huge hugs Bron xoxo

Hoping a little blog love will cheer you up. I linked to two of your recent posts in my last post. Hope you don’t mind.
Pep up, tomorrow will be brighter.

A good sleep – whether a full night or a cheeky day nap – is the only thing that really cures my greys. Hope it’s brighter tomorrow x

hmm grey days, I just bung the house socks on and get through the best way I can. Exercise endorphins always cheer me up.x
Carli (Tiny Savages) says
I just roll with those days and hope they don’t linger. A nice glass of red helps me if there’s no time to chase the exercise endorphin rush x
Sarann says
Today was grey. I got dressed up. I took some time to make me feel and look good. It made the day less grey.
Beautiful writing in your post.

I had one of those days just the other day. My solution was to just get in the car and drive. I drove for an hour and ended up at the art gallery cafe for lunch. Was great.

On literal grey days I find my mood is lifted for some reason, if it’s not raining I go outside and I walk. I love the cool air, the threatening of rain…the lack of sunlight.
On my figurative grey days I want to curl up in a blanket and watch bad television or read a book. Anything but be present in the world.
