Let’s just let that sink in for a minute… tick, tick, tick.
I’ve got a full time job and I can’t tell you what it is yet, but it must be pretty amazing to drag me out of my happy little freelancing zone, don’t you think? Yep, it’s pretty amazing… and daunting. I haven’t worked full-time since 2004.
This week was my first week and I’ve been going into the city on the train and wearing make up and eating lunch in cafes and shoes. I’ve been wearing shoes every single day. Crazy, I know.
Most of the time I’ll be working from home, but some of the time I”ll be wearing the make up and the shoes and going into the city and doing the commuter thing. In my mind that adds up to equal parts exhilarating and exhausting. There’s your work/life balance right there.
I’ll fill you in more in a couple of weeks.
In other news, I’m a volunteer tonight at the Sydney Oxfam Trailwalker, clocking in for the 7pm – 3am shift. It’s exciting to be part of this wonderful event, despite being incapable of walking the 100kms myself. Those who can do, those who can’t support those who can. That’s what I reckon anyway!
Other things that had me this week:
Reading – The ‘new starter employee handbook’. OMG, it’s true!
Writing – just here.
Making – friends at a Northern Beaches blogger meet up that I invited myself to. I don’t actually live on the Northern Beaches, but loads of really fab bloggers do, so I went and they were even more fab than expected.
Wishing – I had less self-doubt and more chutzpah.
Loving – the almost-here blossoms on our cherry tree. Spring is easily my favourite season.
Wondering – what I’m doing, getting a big person’s job.
There aren’t really that many Aussie bloggers on my radar who aren’t afraid to stick their neck out and tackle the controversial issues. We can all be a bit samey-same-same and that bothers me a great deal. Luckily I found Amy from HandbagMafia. I love Amy’s balanced, passionate writing, her clear viewpoints and her openness to consider every side of the story. She is clever mixed with thoughfulness and that’s a very addictive combination to read. Go say hi and I promise you will want to stick around.
Have a lovely weekend and happy reading.

Ooh, excitement! Major life change alert! Can’t wait to hear more, the prolonged suspense is killing me!
Maxabella says
I hate doing the suspense thing, but I kinda can’t NOT talk about it even though I can’t talk about it… argh! x
Emily says
Congrats Bron! How exciting. Can’t wait to hear more details. The slow drip feed is TORTUROUS.
Love Amy’s work. Love your work. Hope that helps with the self-doubt/chutzpah balance. x
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
Congratulations Bron! Full time working lady! I’m sure it’s been a novelty getting back into the swing of things. I look forward to finding out more about it x
Jodi Gibson (JF Gibson Writer) says
Wow! How exciting Bron. I can’t wait to hear more about it. There’s nothing like stepping outside your comfort zone and taking a chance. Please don’t keep us in suspense much longer. It’s killing me!
Helen K says
Aha! Starting to fall into place. Congratulations, I’m sure you will love it! As for me, I work four longish days – around 32-34 hours a week, and it works, partly because of the systems in place (which you seem to be totally across. Great that you had your more luxurious week last week too – make sure you keep factoring some of these times in! x (Ps – hope the Oxfam event is going well; such great comaredrerie, isn’t there?)
Jo @ CountryLifeExperiment says
Sounds super-exciting – hope you enjoy the new challenge!
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Exciting Bron, makeup and shoes at the same time? Wow!!
Yes, you’ll be juggling, but I bet you fall into bed each night feeling like you’ve achieved stuff.
And I think you’ve got a pretty good measure of chutzpah x

Big news, big changes!! I did suspect it was job related, you let a little slip;) but wow, out of the house and having to wear shoes!:)
Glad you linked in with the Northern Beach bloggers, sounds like fun. Now you’ll have to introduce them to us:)
Seana says
Great to see you on the Beaches. Best of luck for week two of the big girls job. A bit of makeup and shoes can be a good thing – working in pjs is too for the balance. Have a good weekend.
Min@WriteoftheMiddle says
Bron, congratulations on your new job! That’s very exciting news! Can’t wait to hear more about it! 🙂 xo
Mrs W says
Congratulations on your new job! I imagine, a bit exciting and a bit terrifying at the same time maybe? Focus on the good bits, that’s what helped me get back in the swing of things when I returned after mat leave. Uninterrupted and unlimited coffees and toilet breaks, getting dressed up like a grown up, intellectual conversation, reading a book quietly at lunchtime, that kind of thing. Makes it sound like a holiday, doesn’t it?!
Robyna | The Mummy & The Minx says
Congratulations on the job! Change is always exciting. Getting all dressed up is one of the things I miss about full time work. Can’t wait to hear more and excellent, excellent, excellent choice of co-host tonight!
Zanni says
You have a cherry tree! I’m jealous! And congrats on your new job and big new step into a big new world. Can’t wait to hear more! Xx
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid says
How weird, you’re starting to work full time and I’m about to quit! I wonder if we’ll ever get our date at the Secret Garden? Maybe we’ll have to have a coffee in the city instead. I’m so excited for you, don’t you just love a new beginning? I can’t wait to hear the deets, but whatever this job is, I just know you’ll ace it because you’re totes ace after all!
Tash @ Gift Grapevine says
Congratulations on your “big person’s job” Bron! I put on my big girl pants and started working back in an office environment this year for two days a week. I’m enjoying the change from working at home and appreciate the adult conversation! That blogger meet up sounds great – some of my favourite bloggers are from the northern beaches. Must be something in the water there! And thanks for featuring Amy this week. I love her blog. Her posts always make me think, question, rage, laugh and smile. She’s a clever one! xx
Renee Wilson says
Congratulations! That’s really exciting news. I can’t wait to hear what it is. What a novelty to wear shoes everyday 😉 Good luck with it all. I have no doubt you’ll rock it. xo
Lydia C. Lee says
Congrats on the job – that’s so exciting!! And may I say, I love Handbag Mafia – even if we don’t always agree, she is ALWAYS interesting!
Kathy says
I’m sure you’ll be great at the new job. I reckon you have plenty of chutzpah. And I’m sure you’ll get a new kind of work-life balance going – it’s never perfect but as long as it isn’t too imbalanced. Try to squeeze some yoga in – in fact I might just do a post on lunchtime yoga.
Lucy @ Bake Play Smile says
Wow!! This is HUGE news! I’m so excited for you. It’s great to have the balance of sometimes shoes/sometimes no shoes going on!!! Cant wait to hear more! Congratulations xx
Charlene says
Wow! Awesome Bron! Congrats on the job and surviving the first week! (you did survive aye?) 🙂 I work one day a week (sometimes two) – teaching 7-8 year olds – I love it! I get to wear nice clothes and socialise with adults (other teachers). I’m in no rush to return to full time work – happy being a stay-at-home mama.
Have a great weekend, Bron
Courtney says
One day I plan to do that Oxfam walk. Good on you for doing it:)
Maxabella says
It’s an amazing achivement, Courtney. I tried to do it in 2013, but bunged my knee in training and that was that. We were up to 50km walks at the time, so at least I got a little taste for it! x
kate says
Congrats on the new job. Life in the big smoke, huh? I’m always up for a cafe lunch. 🙂
Oh, and you are good, that’s one killer shift for Trailwalker. My night, last night, with 1000-plus Guides pales in comparison – at least there was sleep between 1.30am and 4.30am.
Life With The Crew says
Wow, having to wear make-up AND shoes – and you’re still excited about it?! It must be a fantastic job that is right up your alley. Good for you Bron.

MAH-JOR congratulations, my gorgeous girl! Can’t wait to hear all about it. Happy to wait though, because you know, if you told me, you’d have to kill me, right?
Love your work, ladybug!

Full time work.. congrats. I started full time work 3 months ago but sadly I have crashed and burned. I am now down to 4 days and hopefully this works out a little better. argh. I love Amy too.

How exciting for you, and brilliant that you get to do some work from home and some ‘grown up’ stuff in the city – best of both worlds I think.

Mother Down Under says
I thought your good news might be a new job! Congratulations! And I think sometimes commuting is the best way to do it…that way the make up and the cafes and the actual commute stay somewhat novel and fun. Not sure about the shoes though…those are pretty much never fun!
Bec says
Congratulations!!! I am about to start a new job and going from working 3 days a week from home to 3 days a week in an office in the city. I’m so excited to be working as part of a team again (and wearing makeup and shoes 😉 but I’m a bit nervous too about how much more organised I will need to be with meal planning, washing etc! Can’t wait to hear about your new role. Love your blog!
Karin @ Calm to Conniption says
Amy is great! Her posts blow my mind, seriously! She is so talented. And congrats to you. I can’t wait to hear more. I hope your feet handle the constant shoes. It takes me some getting used to when I have to wear them all the time. 😉
