Having not mentioned it all year, I wouldn’t expect anyone to remember that my ‘one word’ for the year was COMPLETE. I mean, I’m barely managing to remember it myself.
One of the key things I’ve been doing to overcome my procrastinaty ways and just get the job done, is embarking on small 21 day challenges throughout the year. This has been working SO WELL for me and I’ve slammed a number of bad habits and introduced some really good ones. I’m publishing a post all about that on Sunday. I hope it helps you get on top of things too.
I was reminded of my ‘complete’ mission this week because my sister Al has completed something very big indeed. This week saw the launch of the third book in her The Mapmaker Chronicles series and if it’s number three in a trilogy, well that’s the trilogy completed.
I can’t imagine how that must feel and when I asked Al how that felt she said, “Blurry” Cheers to that, Al.
So here’s to completing big things and small things and in-between things. After all a deed done is one less deed to have to think about. Which frees us up nicely to ask, “what next?”
Other things that had me this week:
Reading – A. L. Tait’s The Mapmaker Chronicles: The Breath of the Dragon of course!
Writing – well, talking is more the thing this week. A little while ago I had a nice big chat with Pip for a Kidspot Voices podcast and I actually enjoyed listening back to it this week. How strange.
Making – Stacey from Veggiemama‘s delectable Blueberry yoghurt cake. It’s a must!
Wishing – I was on holidays too. Still.
Loving – this food blog.
Wondering – whether I’ve lost any weight now that I’m NINETEEN days into my 21 days of no night eating. How did I get to be almost finished? Another ‘complete’ is coming up. Mind you I will go straight into another 21 days with this one because sadly the habit is strong in this one…
Happy reading and have a lovely weekend.

That’s such a cool photo of Al! Woot for the trilogy done. I am seriously impressed with your meeting of the “after dinner eating” challenge! Seriously well-done. Denyse x
Maxabella says
It’s SUCH a tough one!!
Natalie @ our parallel connection says
I am not good at this… I start so many things all the time and it means I plod along a struggle finishing anything … I think s actually get nervous to finish anything
Maxabella says
Me too, Natalie. I think it’s a weird form of perfectionism… somehow.
Rebecca Bowyer says
I’m so looking forward to reading #3! My local bookshop didn’t have it in yet when I went on Wednesday, but I’ll be back next week to pester them further:-)
Maxabella says
Good on you, Bec. x
Amy @ HandbagMafia says
I always think of it as doing things in bite sized pieces…but that’s a bad euphemism for night eating purposes haha!
Maxabella says
Ha ha ha ha. Not funny.
Karin @ Calm to Conniption says
Gosh! It is terrible but I can’t think of one thing. I do have my blurry “it’s been a big week” head on tonight though. I do have a problem though, I do a lot of things, all the time and just touch each without completing any. Maybe the laundry! I completed Mount Washmore this week…but talk to me about it tomorrow…
Maxabella says
Mount Washmore is the least satisfying thing we ever complete. It’s a horrendous form of domestic torture. I get to the point where I totally get the whole naturist movement…
Robyna | The Mummy & The Minx says
Oh, I do start a million things and finish less than half of them. Huge congrats to Al – what an amazing achievement.
Maxabella says
I think there is a pattern here – lots of us stop-starters and very few finishers!!
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
I really like a sense of completion on the tasks I set for myself. I have got a lot of things left unfinished, or completed which gets on my goat. Something I completed recently was some snazzy birth announcement cards, but I haven’t sent them yet, so does that make them uncompleted?
Good on you for remembering your word for the year. I’ve forgotten mine. I’m off to find my post on that so I can remember exactly what I’m supposed to be achieving! x
Maxabella says
I totally get it. This year more than any other I find myself shocked totally SHOCKED that it is October and my thoughts are almost with year’s end. I know it’s been that kind of year for you too. x
Mrs W says
There’s nothing like the sense of achievement that comes from kicking goals, small or large. Although I can’t fathom how it must feel to have a book trilogy published – phwoar! Your no-night-eating challenge is a great one, good for you for making it this far!
Maxabella says
I fear that 21 days is not near enough for this one. I think my over-arching feeling is of being on “pause”, not of actually making important changes! I will definitely need to lock in for another 21 days.
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Just imagine completing a trilogy, wowee that’s a huge accomplishment! Well done to Al.
Good on you with your no night eating, Bron. That’s my disaster time.
Have a beautiful weekend x
Mumma McD says
The night eating is a killer, guilty as charged! Mainly because I eat with the kids at 5.45pm, I’m starving by 9pm!!
Zoe Meunier says
Starting things is just so much more FUN, though, isn’t it!? Finishing them is just a drag. And yes, satisfying, yada yada…
Erin says
Very excited all three of Al’s books are out. Very timely, our daughter (13) has them on her b’day wish list:)
Lydia C. Lee says
No night eating? I’m off to read that….I can tell you know I don’t think I’d manage that (well,it depends on when ‘night’ starts…
Lucy @ Bake Play Smile says
I am looking forward to reading your post tomorrow! Well done to your sister too – what an achievement!
Pinky Poinker says
I went through a stint of never eating after 2 o’clock once and lost a heck of a lot of weight. I was stressed at the time (divorce) but I think it does work. Actually it got a bit out of hand in the end and I lost too much weight.
I managed to publish a little eBook on Amazon this week which I’m pleased with myself about and attempting to promote in my own little amateurish way. If you know any teachers anyone, please share it 🙂
Is Alison really your sister? How did I not know that? I must read the trilogy asap!
Vicki @ Boiled Eggs & Soldiers says
Wow what an amazing achievement by your sister! I love your 21 day challenges too, I need to do your no night eating as bad habits have slipped in big time. I have achieved a move to Queensland! We will sleep in the new house for the first time on Sunday but the reno will take a few more months – not so bite sized if you pardon the pun!
Julie @ Off to the park says
Hmmm…what have I recently finished…does that include chocolate, haha. Actually I’m just waiting on my Victoria Sandwich to cool, so I can add the cream and jam, then it will be completed for our family dinner!
That’s awesome news about your sis Bron. And great news about you breaking bad habits too! I have been having a detox from Facebook for nearly a week, and haven’t missed it all that much 🙂

Helen K says
Well done – and keep going! (You know you can, now!) x
Tash @ Gift Grapevine says
Well done on all of your ‘completes’ Bron. That feeling of ticking something off a list is mighty satisfying! So happy to see Al’s third book released. I’ve just started my 10 year old niece on Race to the End of the World and have been telling all my friends with kids about the trilogy. It’s great to see Aussie authors in the spotlight and doing well (plus any books that get reluctant tween and teen boys reading are winners!).
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid says
Is Al really your sister? I had no idea! I bought the first two books for my godson’s birthday which is coming right up. That cake looks amazeballs and I may have to take a leaf out of your book with the night eating thing – it has to be my worst habit! Hope you have an ace weekend! x
Lisa says
I am so excited for Al. The cape she got gifted is so beautiful. I am off to look at your habits post.

Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
Gosh I have been so engrossed in holidays, kids and doing fun stuff that blog writing has taken a backseat, but that’s because paid work has taken priority, but it’s a good thing as means we have booked a 5-night kid-free overseas trip that I can not wait for. Now to get healthy and reduce my BP so I’m not on BP pills forever x
Becky from BeckyandJames says
I like the idea of completed tasks and, when I was younger I was all about getting them done but now I start too many and finish too few.
I’ve got to get my kids into these books, I have been thinking that since the first came out!
Zoe | A Quirky Bird says
So great you’re completing things. I know I’ve started so many and now I’m paring it back. I can’t wait to sit back and read your breaking a bad habit series. See you tonight. Zoe xx
